My Little Book Of Big Freedoms

My Little Book Of Big Freedoms

Picture book
My Little Book Of Big Freedoms, created in association with
Amnesty International and illustrated by Chris Riddell, is a pint size
volume that packs a powerful punch. It belongs in every school and
public library and every home with a young child.
This wonderful book lists the sixteen freedoms that make up the
United Nations' Declaration of Human Rights which was created after
WWII. Back then people were horrified by the atrocities humans were
capable of inflicting on others and determined to create a document
that would protect everyone's inalienable rights. A few examples are,
"We have the right to live with our family and live our lives in the
way we choose. The government must respect our privacy", "No one has
the right to imprison us without a good reason. They have to tell us
that reason and let us say why we should be free," and "We all have
the right to take part in running our country. Every grown up should
be allowed to say who they want to be their leader."
This is a wonderful, inspiring book. It needs to be. In
America the freedoms I listed have been violated by Trump's immigrant
policies, Guatanamo, and gerrymandering. In fact I can't find one
freedom America has been in total compliance with. We have a long way
to go.
On a personal note, there is no good way to say this. Joey cat has
cancer. He won't be in this world much longer. The good news is that
he seems comfortable and I can get him good time and make his time on
earth as good as possible.
A great big shout out goes out to the best little cat in the world and
the vetenarians whose skills have pulled him through medical crises
and bought him so many wonderful years.
