Girl Running
Juvenile herstory
These days we take it for granted that women run the Boston
Marathon. It wasn't always the case. Annette Bay Pimental's Girl
Running brings us the story of the game changer.
Bobbi Gibb loved to run. After school every day she changed
from the skirt required for a girl into pants and ran in the woods.
One day, watching the Boston Marathon, she was inspired to put it on
her to do list. After training seriously for two years, she was
denied an application. It was thought that women could not run 26
miles. Plus the rules did not permit them to participate.
Needless to say, she didn't let all that stop her.
On a personal note, I'll be taking Joey cat to the vet. He's been
eating less and losing weight. He is otherwise asymptomatic though.
So he could have something curable. When I gave him shredded turkey
instead of cat food he actually ate a good amount and seemed to gain
energy. Today was hard though. It was challenging for me to leave
the house, go to work, and stay through my shift.
A great big shout out goes out to my best little cat in the world
along with a prayer that I'll have him around for his 16th birthday
and beyond.
