Smaller Sister

Juvenile graphic novel
Maggie Adkins Willis's Smaller Sister takes on a complex and all too prevalent issue in the familiar context of home ๐Ÿก.  The graphic novel format makes the characters and their relationships and conflicts come to life in a way that wouldn't have worked as well in a text only volume.
Lucy and her big sister, Olivia, are less than two years apart in age.  In their earliest years they'd gotten along well but not perfectly.  Now things have started to change.  Olivia doesn't want Lucy to tag along with her and her friends.  Only Lucy can't find chums among her own peers.  Olivia moves from their shared bedroom to her mother's converted study.  Of course there's a Keep Out sign on the door.
One day after her check up Lucy overhears her mother talking to her doctor about Olivia's recovery.  Olivia doesn't look sick.  But more and more of their parents' time and energy ✨️ is focused on Olivia's treatments.  Lucy begins to feel invisible ๐Ÿซฅ in her own home.
Although Smaller Sister isn't a memoir, is was inspired by Willis's childhood memories.  Her not much older sister was diagnosed with an eating disorder.  Although she was frightened of what could happen to Katie, she was also jealous of all the attention she received...
...and desperately wanting her old sister and unified family back.
So there you have it:  a poignant and powerful narrative about a common childhood plight from an author who knows what she's talking ๐Ÿ‘„ about.
On a purrrsonal note, I was thinking about going yard saling next weekend because Father's Day weekend is always when Veazie has the town wide yard sale.  Then Eugene said he was going fishing and ending up at camp for the night.  I said I'd go.
1) He does all the ๐Ÿณ at camp.
2) We usually hit some yard sales on the way up.
3) No internet so I can detox and read books.
He asked me how I'd entertain myself while he was trying out all the promising looking streams.  I bet you can guess.  (Jules)
Mmm!  Fish!  Yummy!  (Tobago)
A great big shout out goes out to our family sports person.
