YA short story anthology
This Is Our Rainbow, edited by Katherine Locke and Nicole Melleby, is by far the most far ranging LGBTQ+ anthology I've read so far. Some of the story protagonists rock all kinds of magic. Rory of Girl's Best Friend is a witch who starts turning into a dog to attract the attention of a new neighbor. Others contend with more down to earth issues. The protagonist of The Purr-cle of Life struggles to choose a new cat to adopt after losing a beloved feline friend. That will resonate with anyone who has lost a precious companion animal. Two of the stories are in graphic novel format.
Although widely different in many ways, these fine stories have one thing in common. They will touch hearts and souls with their identity inclusiveness and validating insights. This Is Our Rainbow is a great public or school library acquisition.
On a purrrsonal note, it was a quiet weekend. Saturday Eugene and I had breakfast at a diner and went for a ride. We saw our first yard sale of the year. The Easter Bunny dropped by. I got lots of Peeps and Eugene got coffee brandy. Eugene and I went to his mother and sister's house for Easter dinner. His brother and his brother's girlfriend were there too. None of our or Tim's kids were there. It was a very quiet dinner. Of course the rest of my weekend was devoted to homework. The end of the semester is coming too fast. And this week will be packed with activities, five in Commuter Lounge alone. (Jules)
That big bunny is freaking scary. Good thing it's an herbivore. (Tobago)
A great big shout out goes out to our readers as we prepare for the school/work week.
