Change Starts With Us
Board book
Happy New Year, readers. Hope 2022 is starting off well for
you. The start of a new year can be a blank slate, a time of hope and
promise, even in a pandemic. So it's the perfect day to introduce you
to Sophie Beer's Change Starts With Us.
The book is a celebration of our littlest ones' potential agency
and activism. Each vibrant two page spread shows preschoolers doing
pretty cool activities. A kid and his dog ride along as dad rides a
bicycle to ditch the car. A dryer stands idle as a super hero clad
child and mom hang laundry to save power. A couple of kids study
colorful insects to learn about the world. My favorite picture is the
one of the children recycling a big box into a pirate ship.
Although kids will enjoy this highly engaging book it also has a
profound message for adults. These days parents often think their
kids will learn the most from electronics or fear that they don't have
enough money to give their daughters and sons quality experiences.
Change Starts With Us is a powerful reminder that hands on experiences
with loved ones is the best way for our littlest ones to learn and
that they don't have to be pricey. My kids loved taking after rain
walks to save earthworms. That led to teaching them about how
important worms are to growing food.
If there is a little one in your life Change Starts With Us is a
great investment with suggestions that will lead to years of fun
learning. I intend to give my copy to the best academic advisor in
the world (mine) who has a beautiful little daughter.
On a purrrsonal note, Tobago and I (Eugene went to bed at his usual
time) saw the New Year in. We hung out the tree with books for me and
treats for us both. (Jules)
All those cat treats!!! Yummy!!! (Tobago)
A great big shout out goes out to you, our readers, with hopes that
you have much to look forward to in 2022!
Tobago and Jules Hathaway
